To the editor:

The 11th Mobile Food Pantry of this year was hosted Sept. 26 at the North Midland Family Center, located on Shearer Road in Mills Township, Midland County. The give-away of 20,849 pounds of free food was funded (anonymously) with a very generous donation from a couple who have supported the network for many years.

Our 45 volunteers served 205 families (612 individuals). Food purchased from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan included beverages, canned and boxed fruits and vegetables, cereals, apples, frozen eggs, milk, dried peas, garbanzo beans and bakery and bread items. Each family received a pork loin roast and one other frozen meat product. The network is very grateful to the many donors of food, money and time to the network's mission of "Always food in every home."

The 12th MFP of this year will be on Oct. 10 at the United Steelworkers Hall, located on James Savage Road jus off Waldo Road in Midland. Pre-registration is required by calling 423-8987. Also, Midland County residents in (financial) need of food during the year may dial 211 and request the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network for food assistance or may dial the Network directly at 486-9393 and press 1 to leave a message.
