GROVE CITY – Donations are still needed for a fundraiser that the Grove City Community Food Pantry is hosting this weekend.

A craft and bake sale will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 12, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, in front of the agency, 114 S. Center St., Grove City.

Traci Gerard, the executive director, said she knows that some community members are planning to donate baked goods, but more of those food items are needed along with crafts in order to help make the event a success.

Items can be dropped off at the food pantry until 10 a.m. Friday. The fundraiser may also include a sidewalk sale with merchandise from Thrifty Threads, the neighboring shop that helps support the food pantry, she said Monday.

Visitors will be able to get some treats and handmade crafts at decent prices while contributing to a good cause.

“It’s all for the food pantry,” Gerard said of money to be raised.

The event will also serve as a reminder that food pantry services are in high demand during the summer, when children are at home for more meals.

“We are seriously lacking in donations,” she said of this time of year.

The food pantry serves 517 families in the Grove City Area School District.

“We need the help all year long,” Gerard said.

The pantry is funded by monetary donations from area residents and organizations, the Grove City Area United Way, and state grants.

They also get food from school cafeterias, and buy items from the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County, local stores and restaurants.

Monetary donations and food for the pantry will also be accepted, and the organization is always in need of more volunteers.
