ROXBOROUGH — A local church is continuing to serve its community by running a food pantry.

The Table is a food pantry that was created by members at the Roxborough Church who believed there was a need to help their community.

“A staff member here decided there was a great need to feed people in our neighborhood,” said Amy Karl, coordinator for The Table.

Since 2014, the food pantry has been a staple in the community and is continuing to provide meals for families and residents in the area.

“As soon as we announced that we were opening, we had at least 100 families almost immediately. On average, we serve 40 families per week,” said Karl.

Guests are able to access the food pantry twice a month after completing a short application.

“To have access to the food, they need to fill out a small form, and they need to bring a copy of their ID. It takes two minutes to fill it out,” said Karl.

The table includes a diverse selection for guests, such as canned goods, bread, eggs, meats, pasta and specialty meals provided by various agencies during the holidays.

“We do strive to be donation-driven, so we offer whatever we receive. If anyone makes a monetary donation, it goes right back to the pantry," said Karl.

Karl, who has been with The Table since June 2016, said she enjoys serving the people in her community.

“I enjoy serving people," she said. "I enjoy taking care of people and making sure they have all the basic necessities.”

The Table, located in the Walnut Room of The Roxborough Church, is open on the first and third Wednesday of each month between 6 and 8 p.m. Guests can also visit every Thursday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., where they will receive a free lunch while shopping.

“Thursday is typically the busiest. Wednesday is our newest addition to our pantry days,” said Karl.

In addition to the food pantry, The Table also has an elder diner on the first Monday of every month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for guests 55 and older.

“We want to uplift people while they are here. We want them to know that they are loved,” says Karl.
