Helping Stateliners in need with the Mobile Rx Pantry Program - WIFR

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) ----- "Don't let pride get in your way. Everyone is in need of help at some point in time or another."

In a team effort with FHN and the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Mobile Rx Pantry Program rolls up to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, helping families, one check-up at a time.

"What we're doing is reaching out to the community to try and catch people before they get sick, so we do screenings for blood pressure, for diabetes, trying to catch them, when people don't know that they have a disease," said co-organizer Michael Perry.

"We know that if someone's getting proper food, a good diet, then they're likely to have a healthy and active life. It's not only making sure they have nutrition, but also getting to start looking at their health," said Yvette Sellers, Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Pastor Antwon Funches says his parish works hard to support and uplift the Freeport community, which he says makes this first stop a no brainer.

"The church is more than just about the spiritual development; we have to have a total person development. So, you have to have a mind development, a body development and a soul development,” said Funches.

Community members like Devan Brembry can't thank the volunteers enough.

"It's a staple in communities like this, that's not heavily populated, so a community like this, with such a small population, this is huge," said Brembry.

The next Mobile Rx Pantry Program will be Friday, August 16 at Freeport's Lincoln Mall.
