PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Parma Heights Food Pantry is in the business of helping others. But, now the food pantry is in desperate need of help themselves.
The truck they use to pick up donations and weekly food pick ups at the Cleveland Food Bank weekly is parked and can’t be used. The 1996 truck with more than 200,000 miles is snow covered in the parking lot.
“They fixed the transmission, but now it’s leaking gasoline and it’s too dangerous to drive. We’re going to need a new vehicle,” said Ann George, founder of the food pantry.
Last month, the food pantry helped feed 241 families, 140 senior citizens, 346 adults and 186 children.
Andrew Lampa is a sophomore high school student who volunteers at the food pantry. Monday, he worked on setting up a GoFundMe page because he has seen the good that is done.
“One guy was really happy. I gave him a cake and he was so happy, he was a really nice guy,” said Lampa.
The pantry is hoping to raise $50,000 for a new vehicle.
