WELLSBORO — The 2018 Burns Supper recently donated $500 to the Wellsboro Area Food Pantry, organized by Jim Tutak, Charlie Messina, Pat Davis, Larry Biddison, Ciro Lo Pinto and Jerry Tutak. The donation will feed 45 people for four to seven days.
The Burns Supper is celebrated around-the-world on the Sunday closest to Jan. 25 honoring Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet. The Wellsboro Burns Supper started in 2010 and the next Burns Supper will be at 3 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2019, at the Timeless Destination, 77 Main St.
All donations received at the Wellsboro Food Pantry are used to purchase food from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to serve the local community, such as the elderly, single mothers and children.
The Food Pantry does not feed families for the month, but allots them food from their stations, like breakfast and produce, based on the number of individuals per household.
The Wellsboro Food Area Food Pantry is open on the second Monday and fourth Tuesday of each Monday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wellsboro Methodist Church, corner of Main and Queen streets.
