Pierpont's Advanced Technology Center host food pantry ribbon cutting - WBOY.com

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - Life United Methodist Church and Pierpont Community and Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center teamed up to help hungry students.

A ribbon cutting was held Thursday for the Pierpont Pride Food Pantry at Pierpont's Advanced Technology Center. The event provided a warm meal for students and those in attendance for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“I had a mom that came to me, she had lost her food stamps because she had to take a part-time job over the summer and she lost her support there. And when she found out about this she was very excited because that little extra, it’s not much but a little bit to help her and her son,” said Jillian Sole, Information Specialist for continuing education.

The pantry got its start a snack cabinet for students and now has expanded into a pantry full of food. Staff members of Pierpont's Advanced Technology Center said anyone in need can take advantage of the pantry.

“And that is what we want to do with the pantry is food that is readily available that can be easily heated up in a microwave or a granola bar that can be grab and go. And so, like all of us students are that same we’re all hungry. We all like to eat so we hope to bring something that is nourishing and something that they can be appreciative of,” said Larry Buckland, Pastor of Life United Methodist Church.

If you have nonperishable foods that you would like to donate you can contact Life United Methodist Church and they will make sure donations will make it to the pantry.
