The annual 'Kampout for KAIR' Food Drive finished up Saturday evening.
KALKASKA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) A northern Michigan food pantry concluded its biggest food drive of the year over the weekend.
Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources wrapped up its 24-hour food drive called "Kampout for KAIR" Saturday.
Volunteers and some Boy Scouts collected and sorted donations at Bill Marsh Kalkaska that will go to KAIR's food pantry.
Northland Foods, Family Fare and Save-A-Lot in Kalkaska all had volunteers inside the door handing out checklists of what the drive needed most.
My volunteers have all taken a part in making this a success and of course, we have the Cub Scouts and their moms that come down and lend a hand and it's truly a wonderful thing," said Cathy Somes, the executive director of KAIR. "At the end of the day, all we can do is help our fellow man and the people who are struggling are the people we are focusing on to stay up all hours of the night to make this successful."
KAIR is still tallying all of its donations but organizers estimate that more than 18,000 pounds of food were donated this weekend.
