Local food pantry running empty, collecting non-perishables

The holidays are just around the corner and the food pantry at Epps Christian Center is running on empty.

Pastor Sylvia E. Tisdale and the Epps Christian Center of Pensacola held a food drive at SAM's Club Thursday in hopes to raise money and collect items to stock their food pantry.

Tisdale said, "The need in the community and everywhere is really great and we're seeing an increase of new people coming in, just needing a handout, and so it disturbed me a little bit that we didn't have anything to give them."

Tisdale has been feeding the needy for more than 12 years and she doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.

If you'd like to help stock the pantry, they are requesting items, such as meat (any variety), canned vegetables, canned fruit, coffee, sugar, creamer for coffee, cooking oil, flour, bottled water, and black pepper.

Monetary donations are accepted, as well.

Epps Christian Center is also looking for volunteers. If you are interested, please call (850) 572-5761.
