The 18th annual Frostbite Marathon begins Friday, but the event has nothing to do with running a race. It has everything to do with making sure area residents can put food on their tables.
Sponsored by the Danville Area Food Pantry, organizers will have a Pepsi trailer at County Market in Towne Centre and collection barrels at County Market stores at the Village Mall and in Tilton. County Market also will have bags of food already assembled for $5 for those interested. Donors can drop off contributions 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The pantry faces serious challenges due to increased demand. Chuck Brooks, chairman, said the pantry served more than 800 people last month, with 70 of those being first-time users. Without donations, the pantry could be forced to close.
Organizations such as the Danville Area Food Pantry and others count on contributions to help local residents. No one in the United States should worry about having enough food. Consider making a donation this weekend to help those in need.
