Less people are going to bed on an empty stomach thanks to a Little Free Pantry in St. Joseph.
Vanessa Steinman opened the Little Free Pantry in front of her home on the corner of 24th Street and Edmond Street in October.
Steinman said the pantry has really taken off since the opening as more people become aware of it. She said people come by to grab items for their family almost every day.
"I had one young man stop me to say 'thank you so much for putting this pantry here. It has really helped me and my family' and he was a boy from Central," Steinman said.
As there is a lot of use of the pantry, Steinman is noticing it needs more donations.
She used to have extra items people donated when they first learned about the pantry piled up in her house, so she could put them out when the pantry was running low. However, now there are no extra items.
Steinman said there has only been a completely bare pantry once or twice, but it is in need of more people coming by with donations to continue helping the community.
People can put food or hygiene items in the pantry any day of the week. If the pantry is full that day, you can leave the items on Steinman's porch, so she can put it in the pantry when it gets low.
