Bronx food pantry re-opens after new round of funding - Spectrum News NY1

After being closed down for about three months, a food pantry in the Bronx finally gets the funding needed to re-open its doors.

BronxWorks was forced to shutter the weekend pantry over the summer because of a lack of funding and volunteers. It’s now open again, because of a small grant from the city council and fundraising efforts. It serves about 140 working families who often don't have time to get to pantries during the week.

Julie Spitzer, BronxWorks Food Pantry Director says “the new charge about public benefits not being given to new immigrants, people are not trying to apply to anything so they want to come here, get pantries so they can stretch their dollars and make ends meets for their families.”

For now the pantry will be open every other Saturday, until more funding can be secured.
