KITTERY POINT, Maine Kids and their parents from First Congregational Church are hosting a pasta dinner for the community Saturday, Sept. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Parish House at 23 Pepperrell Road.

The dinner will benefit Footprints Food Pantry in Kittery.

The dinner, called KIDServe, is open to everyone with a suggested donation of $8 ($5 for children), although any donation is welcome. Take-out dinners are available.

Chef Steve Hoffman, who works at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, is preparing homemade meat sauce and primavera sauce with fresh herbs and vegetables. There will be gluten free pasta available in addition to traditional, along with salad, bread and dessert.

Several local businesses are donating food to help raise as much money as possible for the food pantry.

Footprints Food Pantry provides free food and personal care products to approximately 100 to 112 individuals and families in Kittery, Kittery Point and Eliot each week. This includes more than 80 children and 140 adults, including 39 seniors.

Footprints also delivers food to housebound residents.

Many families and individuals continue to struggle to keep up with general daily necessities of life. Footprints is an all-volunteer organization, with volunteers putting in 7,000 hours last year to provide food to those in need.

This will be the sixth KIDServe Dinner. The dinner is an opportunity for young folks, working with adults, to put on a dinner, including doing setup, assisting in the kitchen and dining hall, cleaning up, spreading the word and donating the proceeds to groups and people in the community.

The dinners began in 2017. To date, more than $4,000 has been raised for veterans, Fair Tide, A House for Me, and Footprints Food Pantry. More than 700 people have enjoyed the dinners and the fellowship in the parish house.

The dinners have been on hiatus during 2019 while Hoffman recovered from surgery. He is better than ever and is looking forward to being back in the kitchen.
