Letter: Salvation Army was able to restock pantry shelves - The Columbus Dispatch

Thanks to the generous support of our community, The Salvation Army in Central Ohio has been able to stock its pantry shelves with much-needed items. The canned food donations also have added a larger variety of foods for the people we serve across our five local Choice Pantries.

To date, more than 13,000 pounds of food have been donated. In 2018, we provided 250,416 meals through our Franklin County food pantries, a 14% increase over the previous year. Every can of food and dollar donated makes a difference for our neighbors who come to The Salvation Army for help.

We deeply appreciate each person’s contribution, whether in food donations or monetary gifts. Here are some examples of compassion we have seen in response to our call for help:

• Many made financial donations that allowed us to purchase the food items of greatest need. The total amount given so far is nearly $37,000.

• Some local food pantries and churches generously shared their food resources.

• Many families and groups held canned food drives.

• The local newspaper, television and radio media communicated the dire need for pantry donations. Those stories encouraged many central Ohio residents to help.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks. With the continued support of central Ohioans, we will continue to feed hungry neighbors.
