WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Food Finders Mobile Pantry served nearly 135 families at Klondike Elementary on Saturday afternoon. Food Finders' leaders say that totals out to more than 400 individuals.
This is the eighth year the elementary school has partnered with the mobile pantry. It began in honor of Klondike staff member Judy Doremire who was responsible for managing student lunch accounts for nearly 20 years.
Faculty members say her passion to make sure no child went hungry carries on through this event.
Klondike Principal Scott Peters said faculty members are committed to helping their community.
“The Klondike Elementary School is here to support our community and we're in this together,” said Peters. “We could support them in any of their needs and help those families that need the extra food. We're here to provide it and we're a resource for them in our community.”
Judy's husband, Harold Doremire said her memory is living on.
“She was very interested in kids, loved them all,” said Harold. “She made sure that if somebody didn't have money for lunch, they had something to eat and I think she would be very pleased today.”
Some items the mobile pantry provided were fresh produce, frozen meat, non-perishables, and bread.
