CRAB ORCHARD, WV (WVVA) Corey Handy is a junior at Kentucky Christian University but is focusing to help his community 365 days a year. Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Crab Orchard has helped families in the community during the holidays over the years, but Handy has been thinking about the idea of a food pantry for some time.
“I got up in front of everyone and was like God has laid this on my heart,” said Handy.
Corey says he’s hoping to use some empty classrooms or the gym as the food pantry. Folks in the church have contributed a thousand dollars and local organizations have donated food. If you’re feeling the need to help the community, Corey says anyone is welcome.
“Anyone from Raleigh County, Fayette County, Mercer County, Summers County,” said Handy, “All the surrounding counties we’re willing if you want to help.”
Even though he will be in Kentucky for school, he plans on coming back to help with operations until graduation. After graduation, Handy plans to become social studies teacher and coach while helping out the food pantry.
