GRANVILLE — Putnam County Food Pantry will accept anything anyone wants to give except clothing, said manager John Shimkus.
“Anything we get, we give,” Shimkus said.
In addition to donating food, the pantry also gives out items such as toilet paper, laundry soap and dish soap.
They’ve served about 80 families (300 people) per month on average this year, which seems to be lower than normal, he said, but the need is still there.
“If you come down and ask for food, we’ll give it to you,” Shimkus said, adding that’s no discrimination or requirements other than being Putnam County resident.
Those who want food or supplies should show up 8:30-10:30 a.m. any Saturday at the pantry, which is in the basement of Granville United Church of Christ, 103 N. Church St.
New clients must provide proof that they live in Putnam County, such as a current power bill with a street address.
The pantry is preparing for the annual Christmas basket giveaway, which requires a separate sign-up.
The basket includes items for a complete breakfast and dinner meal for Christmas day (such as milk, eggs, ham, beans and more). It also includes a gift for ages 16 and under and seniors over 65 years old.
Those interested in donating money can mail or bring it to First National Bank, Granville, which the pantry has an account at (indicate it’s for Putnam County Food Pantry). or mail it P.O. Box 96, Granville, IL 61326.
