A bright red ribbon was cut Saturday to celebrate Cape Vincent Food Pantry's new location on Esseltyne Street.
For the last 21 years, the pantry has been operating in a very small space in United Church of Cape Vincent.
"It's extremely emotional. I never ever when I took this position two years ago thought that this could have actually happened," said Rebecca Dowling, director of the Cape Vincent Food Pantry.
The new building is 2,000 square feet. Dowling said there is now more storage space and with new freezers they can have more meat available.
The building was bought and donated by the Macsherry family.
"It's kind of a family ethic you might say of where we live you give back," said Richard Macsherry.
had actually volunteered at the old food pantry.
"I came home and new something needed to be done so we talked about it and we came we came up," said Deb Macsherry.
Dowling said people who come to the food pantry will now be able to use grocery carts and this is just one of the many things that couldn't be done in the old location.
"It's just amazing what we're now going to be able to do. We are going to be able to have nutrition classes and cooking demonstration classes for our clients," said Dowling.
The Food Pantry will have it's first distribution at it's new location on Dec. 5
