TWINSBURG, Ohio -- A Twinsburg High School teacher admitted to having sex with a one of her teenage students in a classroom pantry, according to a Twinsburg police report.
Laura V. Bucy, 32, of Akron, is charged with sexual battery and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles. The police report says that after Bucy had sex with a 17-year-old student she sent him a "compromising video and photo."
Investigators began investigating Bucy and her relationship with the student after her ex-husband called police Sept. 6 and told them Bucy said "she had to confess to her sins" and "she had sex with a student of hers," the police report says.
The police report was released to cleveland.com late Friday evening, and has several redactions.
Bucy appeared at her former father in-law's farm in Doylestown on Aug. 2 crying and "making a lot of incoherent statements" and "asking for forgiveness," police said. She later drove away from the man's home and parked her vehicle in the middle of Interstate 71 and walked away from it. State Highway Patrol located her and transported her to an undisclosed location, police said.
Investigators spoke with Bucy on Sept. 11, and she admitted to engaging in a sexual relationship with the student at a time when "she felt very overwhelmed with having three kids to care for, working and attending college," the report says.
Bucy, who has been with the school for a year and works as a home economics teacher, said she and the teenager "made a very strong connection" after he would come to her classroom and help her clean. police said.
She told police he acted and looked like Bucy's ex-husband, police said.
The sexual contact occurred in either February or March, according to the police report, citing Bucy's admission. Bucy said she and the teenager had sex in the classroom pantry after he came to her room following lunch, police said.
Bucy said the sexual intercourse happened once and the two exchanged photos and videos of each other on Snapchat, a social media application that allows photos and videos to disappear after 24 hours, police said.
Bucy also told investigators she supplied liquid for the student to use in his vaping device because she knew he liked it. She wouldn't allow students to use the drugs in her classroom, but she did purchase $10 worth of marijuana from another student, police said.
Authorities told Bucy that she should remain at a secured facility in Akron and they "would be in contact upon her release," the report said.
Investigators spoke with the teenager and his parents the same day officers questioned Bucy. The student confirmed Bucy's story, except saying they had sex before Christmas and not in February or March, police said.
He told police he came to Bucy's classroom to help her clean up when she came up behind him and started kissing him in the pantry, police said. The 17-year-old told police he didn't tell anyone about the incident because he didn't want to get Bucy in trouble, police said.
Investigators were notified Sept. 12 that Bucy had left the secured facility in Akron and flew to see her father in Arizona. A warrant was issued for her, accusing the teacher of sexual battery and for sending graphic photos to a student, police said.
Bucy was arrested Sept. 22 after she arrived at the Twinsburg Police Department with her mother and father. She was booked into Summit County Jail and appeared by video for her first court appearance in Stow Municipal Court two days later.
Bucy pleaded not guilty to the charges before Stow Municipal Court John Clark, according to Stow Municipal Court records. Bucy was later released after making a a $50,000 bail, and ordered not to have any contact with the teenager.
She's scheduled to appear in court Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, court records show.
