Raider Red's Food Pantry opens Wednesday, August 29th, at Texas Tech University.
It's located in room 117 in Doak Hall. It's a campus-wide food pantry that offers a variety of non-perishable food items for students. They also accept food and monetary donations.
According to Texas Tech, a recent survey of more than 43,000 college students shows 36 percent of them do not have access to adequate, affordable, and nutritious food, and the school is hoping to change that.
"They don't know when their next meal will be, and students should be worried more about their classes and how they're going to prepare for their future than what am I going to eat, is this loaf of bread going to last me for the week, kinda thing," said Ileana Hinojosa, Administrator for the Center for Campus Life.
The food pantry officially opens Wednesday with a ribbon cutting and celebration from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The pantry is available to all current students, you just have to fill out an entry form. Hours will change by semester, so be sure to check the website, or if you need access to the pantry, you can call the Office of the Dean of Students at (806) 742-2984.
