CINCINNATI -- "Today is the end of a very good thing."
The Norwood-based Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry, which for more than eight years helped provide low-income households with kibble, announced on Sunday it would close for good. Since 2010, organizers wrote on Facebook, the project had struggled to secure both the space and the supplies that fueled it.
"Those struggles finally got the best of us," the post reads.
The Pet Food Pantry's goodbye thanked the organizations that supported it, including the United Pet Fund and Petco Foundation, the volunteers who helped transport supplies and the clients who gave it a reason to exist.
Pamela Harlow, one of those clients, said she and her husband have relied on Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry to feed their six dogs and two cats for more than three years.
"We have some pretty healthy little critters, and that's all because of the Pet Pantry," she said. "They give wonderful, really good-quality food."
Now, her family will have to find another way to feed their pets. The Pet Food Pantry plans to connect clients like her with other resources to support themselves and their pets in its absence.
