Terre Haute, IN - Victims of domestic violence and sexual assault find help through the Council on Domestic Abuse or CODA.
That organization recently got some help of its own thanks to Jack Strain from Sullivan County.
Through the America's Farmers Grow Communities grant program, the Monsanto Company awarded him $2,500 to give to the non-profit of his choice and he chose CODA.
The non-profit put the money toward filling up its food pantry at its emergency shelter. CODA was able to serve 4,000 meals because of it.
The organization was also excited because this was money they could spend right away.
"We get a lot of funding from state and federal sources ,but it's reimbursement based. So, we have to spend money upfront on our own, get those receipts and send them back in before we are reimbursed, so sometimes it's a two month turnaround," explains Sarah Campbell, the Executive Director of CODA.
Campbell says community support is so important to what they do. CODA invites people to attend the Monte Carlo Masquerade fundraiser on October 20.
