This was a very busy month for the Pantry and May’s Oxford Orchard Church. Besides the strong contributions from departing coeds, Katie Amidon and her Orchard volunteers supported a 1,500 pound United States Postal Service Food Drive and a 2,500 pound Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) Food Drive both over the Mother’s Day weekend. While these contributions greatly assisted stocking the Pantry, they required many extra volunteer hours to sort & shelve.
Our May Orchard volunteers provided for over 500 families and worked an extra week, as May was a 5-week month. These folks provided a cheerful approach to all and everyone said their smiles were contagious. We are truly blest with such strong hard working congregations. We again want to thank the visiting missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for their continued Wednesday & Thursday support.
Finally, special thanks to our friends at Lovepacks who donated over 500 pounds of canned & dry goods as they closed out there school year. We truly appreciate all they do to help minimize food insecurity among our “at need” children.
Thank you to all our University of Mississippi students who have volunteered over the school year at the Oxford Pantry. We hope that your experience was as rewarding to you as your commitment was appreciated by us.
Your fellow volunteer,
John Kohne
