Marine City families in need have another place to turn for extra support to avoid hunger thanks to members of the St. Clair-based Woman’s Life 803 organization.
Little Red Pantries have been popping up in locations throughout St. Clair County for over a year, offering food and other household goods to area residents in need. A recent installation brought a Little Red Pantry to the Community Mental Health facility located at 135 Broadway St. in Marine City.
“Take what you need, leave what you can” is the philosophy of the Little Red Pantries of St. Clair County, boxes that offer 24-hour access to canned goods, packaged food and other essentials to residents in need.
Woman’s Life 803 President Lisa Seelman said she hoped from the start to place a box in Marine City because she is aware of a need in the area, but when the chapter began the project, she struggled to find a host.
It took a social media connection with local resident Erin Martin to help find a site for the pantry.
Martin joined Seelman and Alex Saunders for the placing and stocking of the pantry outside of the building.
The Marine City Little Red Pantry marks the seventh box installed by members of Woman’s Life 803, who also build the pantries and help keep them stocked. Three pantries are located in Port Huron, while others can be found in St. Clair and Kimball Township.
