Earlier this school year, the food ran out. When members of the Junior Auxiliary found out, they jumped into action.
Members brought donations of food to a meeting and the food was brought to the high school Monday morning.
"Well it means a lot to the school here because when you're hungry, it's not easy," said Debbie Banko. "I mean you can't expect kids to come to the classroom and learn when they are hungry. We're filling a need. It's wonderful to live in a community that care and it's wonderful to work in a school that cares about kids inside and outside of school."
Tupelo High School Principal Art Dobbs praised the Junior Auxiliary for their help.
"The mission of Junior Auxiliary is to help the school-age children in Lee County," said Susan Meredith. "So we provide clothing, food, basic medical needs sometimes, school supplies, so to this is huge. It's what we do. It's what we exist for."
The local JA chapter collected and donated the food as part of a project for National Junior Auxiliary Week.
