ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Three out of four people who rely on the Northern Illinois Food Bank for their meals have had to choose between paying for food or paying for utilities.
Rosecrance says some of the families it works with have gone through the same decision. That's why they teamed up with the food bank to bring the mobile pantry and its meals to 150 families in need.
Recovery tech Bonnie Gilmore says the mobile food pantry helps keep many families from going hungry in our area.
"Northern Illinois Food Bank has provided free or reduced cost to buy refreshments whether it be a granola bar or a piece of fruit or bread or something we're able to help that client just so they have some substance in their stomach," says Gilmore.
In 2017, the food bank brought meals to more than 40,000 families through their mobile pantry.
