Salem Food Pantry in need of donations - WOWT.com - WOWT

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Many food pantries across the metro are in need of food donations, especially during the holiday season, but the Salem Food Pantry says their need is dire because more families need help than ever before.

The food pantry is located just north of Salem Baptist Church near 31st and Lake Streets, but it just moved to that location less than a year ago.

Volunteers with the pantry have noticed that since their move, more families are needing assistance. However, their donations have gone unchanged.

"We noticed in this location, there is no grocery store. They have to go at least some miles to get to a grocery store, so we want to provide for at least a week for families. We have larger families in this community," volunteer Cynthia Brewer said.

The food pantry is currently funded through Salem Baptist Church, but because their need is growing, they need more assistance from the community.

The food pantry also differs from others in that it provides families with enough food for a week, and right now, what they really need are canned vegetables and other non-perishable food items.

Donations can be dropped off at the food pantry Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
