Pellissippi Pantry provides full bellies for students in need - WVLT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Thomas Boling isn't worried about what's for supper.

"It's what my supper is every night, so it's really neat," said Boling, a participant of the Pellissippi State Pantry program.

Boling is one of the 174 students and staff at Pellissippi State in the food pantry program. It provides one meal a day for anyone that needs it, and extra food for loved ones back home.

"Every two weeks, we deliver a delivery to the campus of your choosing and that way people with transportation issues are able to get the food as well," said Kendahl Moore, who works with AmeriCorps VISTA to serve the Pellissippi Pantry.

The pantry provides a way people can focus more on their studies and less where their next meal is coming from.

"We're able to help students maintain financial stability while they achieve their academic goal," said Moore.

Faculty kept hearing murmurs about chronic hunger in the hallways of Pellissippi State and decided to do something about it.

"I really enjoy working with the pantry," said Moore. "I really like working with volunteers and students, and having one-on-one time with participants. It's really meaningful. It just gives you the warm fuzzies."

"It's just a really great program," said Boling. "I'm really thankful for it."
