Local food pantry receives much...

SALISBURY, Md. - Help is on the way for families in need. On Monday, a local pantry got upgraded thanks to a group of volunteers.

"It's just been overwhelming."

Tina Kovach found it hard to put into words what took place Monday at Delmarva Evangelistic Church's food pantry.

Kovach says, "It's just humbling that our community would come together and work on the need of so many people."

The church's pantry received the makeover they desperately needed.

"I had a freezer go up last week with all our food in it so that was on Tuesday and Thursday they delivered four freezers. Every freezer is solid, packed full you couldn't get another piece of nothing in it," explains Novach.

From painting to restocking and organizing Food Lion volunteers spent the entire day making sure that this pantry is ready to serve.

"It just feels amazing. It makes you feel like you're a part of something bigger. It's just such a positive impact to the community our kids will be able to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

The pantry feeds anywhere between 60 and 120 local families every two weeks and before this restock they could only provide two meals.

Now they are able to provide 4 to 6 meals every pick up, further helping families who are just trying to make ends meet.

"They'll be able to last longer because by the time they get back to me, I do it every two weeks so by the time they get back to me, they're probably down to little or none so being able to provide more for them they'll be able to make ends meet until we get back."

The church's pantry is open every month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays.

We're told the families who receive meals from the pantry already are thankful to the community for stepping in to help the place that they and their families rely on.
