The LC Valley Central Labor Council and Rosauers are stepping up to help feed hungry families.

Grantham Elementary School has a food pantry that provides the basic necessities to students and their families, year round.

Principal Don Lee says around 85% of his students are on free or reduced lunch plans and rely on school for full balanced meals. He says as the holiday season approaches keeping the pantry stocked is extra important.

"Thanksgiving and Christmas is a time of eating, sometimes over eating as you know, but for a lot of kids who get their best meals at school it's a time when they're hungry. As you can sort of see, we're sort of down to bare bones here and we really need the community's support to make it successful," said Lee.

The food drive is Tuesday October 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rosauers. They are looking for non-perishable foods as well as toiletries.

The food that is not given out for the holidays will help supply the pantry through the year and into the summer.
