Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry holds food drive - Kotatv

STURGIS S.D. (KOTA TV) - Thousands of pounds of food were collected to stock the shelves of the Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry Saturday morning.

Student volunteers went door to door collecting blue bags filled with food donations.

The grocery's collected for the pantry will be distributed throughout Sturgis.

Coordinator Richard Deaver said that they did not receive their usual amount of donations, but he's attributing it to the cold weather.

If you are interested in donating you can drop canned goods and pasta items off at the Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry.

They serve all of Mead County, and food goes fast.

"This really gives us a boost. Normally the food we get from this drive keeps us in groceries for about two months, so we go through about four thousand pounds a month so we've got about a month's worth of food today in this drive,” said food pantry coordinator, Richard Deaver.

Four thousand pounds of food were collected Saturday.
