Hungry? Help is on the way.
"What you're looking at here is some of the types of food you would see at a mobile pantry," said Aaron Schekorra while rifling through a box of peanut butter, canned black beans, whole wheat spaghetti and more.
The Brazos Valley Food Bank knows food isn't just scarce in city limits. That's why the non-profit takes their show on the road with mobile food pantries in Grimes and Madison Counties.
"It's not exactly easy to drive the 40-to-80 miles that would be required if you needed to visit a pantry in Bryan," said Schekorra.
Gas money tight? Car trouble? No license? Whatever the reason, BVFB employees say everyone deserves a nutritious meal within reach.
"Making it available where they can get a ride or ride a bike [to], somewhere that's a lot closer and actually in their community," Schekorra said. "It makes that process a lot easier."
Twice-a-month, the mobile food bank feeds those surrounding counties, serving more than 650 families per year.
"I think what I would say to people who are considering coming out for Food for Families is every little bit counts," said Schekorra. "Every can that they donate, every dollar that they donate is really going to go a long way to making sure that the people of the Brazos Valley have food on their table at the end of the day."
KBTX's Food for Families food drive is Wednesday. There will be four locations where you can donate money and/or canned food.
