LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) There is just one week now until Thanksgiving and an area radio station is working overtime to help feed needy families.
As Eyewitness News Reporter Eric Deabill shows us -- Rock 107's morning show host is once again doing it in a unique way.
If you happened to see a gigantic shopping cart rolling down your street Thursday -- it wasn't your imagination..
"Prospector" from Rock 107 has just started his 14th annual Pantry Raid.
The radio show host is visiting businesses -- collecting food for the less fortunate.
"As you get to the holidays you've got all this other attention, you're money is going towards gifts and you're thinking about "this or that" so if we can help out just a little bit to help feed people, it's an easy thing"
While stopped at Gerrity's in Clarks Summit -- workers helped to load pallets of food donated by the community.
Shoppers are able to donate by buying five-dollar bags filled with groceries.
Bill Velicky did his part.
"I think it's imaginative and it looks like a fun machine" noted Velicky.
While this is a drive to end hunger -- the uniqueness of effort -- certainly turns heads.
"They're smiling, they're beeping, they're laughing, they're waving and with the holidays coming up it's important. Everyone is so excited and in high spirits when they see them driving around" Added Nicole Sullivan, Toyota of Scranton Public Relations.
This shopping cart traveled all around Lackawanna County on Thursday. On Friday, it'll be in Luzerne County"
The cart itself is street legal.
It's got its own seat belts, mirrors and more.
Prospector knows it's all about grabbing people's attention.
"If I could just go on the radio and say "bring food" and it would work as well i would just as happily stay inside and not freeze everyday. Even in beautiful weather like this -- it's still cold when you're going 45 miles per hour in an open shopping cart" Said the Prospector.
A cart..with an important cause.
The Pantry Raid wraps on Friday when Prospector arrives at the Gerrity's on Hanover Twp with a celebration from 5 to 6 p.m., The public is also invited.
