TEWKSBURY -- The Tewksbury Lions Club and Sons of Italy are joining forces to host the second annual spaghetti supper to benefit the town's food pantry.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, diners can enjoy dinner and good company at the Tewksbury Country Club with a $10 advance-purchase ticket.

"I think community participation would be well worth it for the efforts that both clubs are putting in to have this event," said Sherry Hubbard, president of the Tewksbury Lions Club.

Last year the Lions Club hosted the event alone and donated $5,000 to the Tewksbury Community Pantry. Hubbard said because the Lions Club collaborated with the Rotary Club for its Memorial Day 5k race, they thought the spaghetti supper would be a good opportunity to team up with another local organization.

"It's a good cause and we support a lot of different charities," said Debbie Deputat, president of the Tewksbury Sons of Italy. "When this opportunity came up for us, we didn't even have to think twice about joining the Lions in this cause."

Selectman Todd Johnson, who also serves on the board of directors for the food pantry, said he is so grateful for the community's support of the pantry over the years.

"The food pantry is 100 percent operated by volunteers and we rely literally on the Tewksbury community to fund our mission, which is to provide food support to Tewksbury residents in need," Johnson said.

Although the pantry received many food donations, which are typically canned goods, events like the spaghetti supper bring in cash to fill the void for other items the pantry needs.

"We have increased demand during the winter months when people have the extra expense of heating costs while they're living on a very tight budget," Johnson said. "This would be a timely donation because of the holiday season coming up."

The goal again this year is to raise $5,000. A maximum of 370 tickets can be sold. Johnson said last year's boisterous and jovial crowd felt like one big family.

The spaghetti supper is just one of many ways the community can help to support the food pantry. For other ways to donate, visit http://ift.tt/2dSjWBS.
