A man is accused of robbing a Plaid Pantry in the Woodstock neighborhood armed with a chainsaw and knife late Sunday, according to Portland Police.
Just before 11:10 p.m., officers responded to the store, 5414 S.E. Woodstock Blvd., after the robbery was reported, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland Police spokesman. Police found the suspect, whom they identified as 34-year-old Jonathon Lee Lathrop, outside the store and arrested him on accusations of first-degree robbery and kidnapping.
They seized a chainsaw at the scene, Simpson said.
A car was on fire nearby, but police did not know whether it was connected to the robbery. Firefighters put out the flames and are investigating the fire's cause.
