Western States Bank Food Pantry supports local College Students - ShortGo

Laramie County Community College is pleased to partner with Western States Bank to provide a food pantry on the LCCC campus to support current students and reduce food insecurities within the student population.

The Western States Bank Food Pantry is located in the Crossroads Building on the LCCC campus and is open to students Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Students with a valid LCCC ID can access and use the food pantry at no charge, twice a week for a limited number of items. The food pantry provides free food and toiletry items to students.

“The Western States Bank Food Pantry at LCCC serves as an important role for students. Students have a hard time studying or taking tests when they are worried about where their next meal will come.  LCCC students can access the pantry if they forget their lunch, or if they need hygiene supplies.  LCCC appreciates community partners who are interested in partnering with the Western States Bank Food Pantry to help students be successful,” stated James Miller, LCCC Dean of Students.

The food pantry at LCCC began in 2012 out of a service learning project, with students recognizing the needs of their peers. In 2018, Western States Bank provided a generous donation of $25,000 to endow a fund to support the on-going operations and purchase of items for the food pantry. During the fall semester of 2019, more than 250 students have visited the food pantry for assistance, with 70 of them vising more than two times this semester.

“The partnership with Western States Bank has been an amazing opportunity for LCCC and our students. The food pantry plays such an important role for our students and provides the support that some need just once and others might need on an on-going basis. We appreciate the support that Western States Bank and many other contributors have provided to establish an endowment to support the long-term impact of this service to our students,” said Lisa Trimble, Associate Vice President, Institutional Advancement at LCCC.

Western States Bank will also be holding a food drive at both branches through Dec. 13 and is seeking community support.
Non-food items and non-perishable items can be dropped off at either WSB branch from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
The donated items will benefit the Western States Bank Food Pantry at LCCC.
