SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – North High School is getting to increase the reach of their school pantry thanks to a generous grant.
Tyson Foods has given the school a $10,000 grant for their pantry, which allows the service to be open twice a month, doubling their availability.
Company employees came to the school today to help stock shelves for the November food pantry dates.
Tyson officials say the idea for the grant comes from the school’s teachers.
“North High teachers have been very passionate about this,” said Dan Heffernan, Vice President of Human Resources at Tyson Fresh Meats. “They are the ones that kind of approached us, they had the idea, and we got behind it financially with ample support.”
Tyson Foods has also awarded an additional $1500 grant to two North High School teachers as part of its “Hunger Heroes” program.
Items in the pantry include a variety of food and items like shampoo, detergent, and toilet paper.
The pantry is available to all students of North High and its feeder schools.
Those in need of service can call the school at 712-239-7000.
