Church offers mobile food pantry - WGEM

Nearly one in seven households with children cannot buy enough food for their families, according to the USDA.

A local organization wants to help local families, but the deadline to sign up to receive help is fast approaching.

The Lutheran Church of St. John is accepting applications for its mobile food pantry through the end of the day on October 24. Senior Pastor Steve Hayden said the church brings food to locations in Quincy, once a month for people to come pick up.

He adds it makes it easier for people who do not have transportation or who cannot visit their pantry during normal business hours.

“What people need to know is that a lot of people who come visit our food pantry either here or our mobile food pantry are folks who have jobs, they’re working and they’re working hard, and trying to make ends meet for their family,” Hayden said.

The next mobile food pantry distribution is set for November 12, from 11:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at the Indian Hills Community center in Quincy.

Applications can be picked up at the Lutheran Church of St. John, located at 3340 State Street or the Quincy Neighborhood Federation at 812 Payson.

Forms must be returned to the Quincy Housing Authority Office at 504 Harrison Street.

The Lutheran Church of St. John normal food pantry hours are Monday & Thursday from 10:00 a.m.- 2 p.m.
