Jan Martin says a “brilliant” move helped Hall High School students win the Fill The Bus challenge, a friendly competition with St. Bede Academy.
The two schools were competing to see who could collect the most donations at Hy-Vee on Saturday for Hall Township Food Pantry.
Mautino Distributing showed up at the last minute of the competition with a pallet of bottled water, tipping the scales in favor of hall, said Martin, food pantry director. Martin said she was wondering who was going to unload all of the food and all of that water at the pantry in Spring Valley, when Hall football players who just finished practice showed up to unload items at the pantry.
Donations came to a total of 5,653 pounds of food and $745.
“It was wonderful. We had such a good day and the students got along so well,” she said.
