LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – As many people know, tailgating means family, friends, fun and good food but for Johnsonville’s Big Taste Grill it means so much more.
The Big Taste Grill was at a Kroger in Georgetown Friday but Grill Master Kris Hightower said for gameday they raised double.
Hightower and two other grill masters travel all across America to work with local charities and non-profits.
At the end of the day, they donate all of the proceeds to the organization.
“Rolling into a town, they’ve never seen a spectacle like this and then we end up just giving back to the community. I’ll tell you I’ve shed a few tears just in my travels from east to west doing fire relief, hurricane relief and, then hooking up with these fantastic charities,” Hightower said.
While here in Lexington, they partnered up with God’s Pantry Food Bank.
CEO of the food pantry, Michael Halligan said tailgating for the late game only helped with sales.
He said they grilled and sold almost 1,500 brats.
“September is Hunger Action Month and this is what actions all about. You know there’s people that are coming to shop and they’re stopping by and grabbing a few brats and they’re making a difference in people’s lives and really what it’s all about,” Halligan said.
The flames are out, but not for long.
The Big Taste Grill is heading on to Athens, Georgia next.
