MENDOTA — Thanksgiving distribution by the Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry will be 8-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, according to Beverly Banks, director.
She said food will be available during those hours and, other than the usual income and residency requirements, there will be no special signup.
The pantry serves between 125 and 150 families, which breaks down to around 400 individuals every month. She said there has been an increase in the number of senior citizens raising their grandchildren and seeking aid.
The pantry is raising money for a new van. Banks said they rely on the van to transport food from the regional food bank. Donations can be mailed to 918 Main St., Suite 1, Mendota, IL 61342.
The pantry also needs food donations, particularly foods that are easy to prepare. That includes beans, fruit cocktail and soup.
“We go through tons of Sloppy Joe mix,” she said.
