South Shore Bank to fund Weymouth Food Pantry garden for next decade - The Patriot Ledger

WEYMOUTH — The garden used by the Weymouth Food Pantry to provide fresh produce to those in need has been funded for the next 10 years by an agreement made Friday with South Shore Bank.

“I couldn’t be more excited about receiving this commitment from South Shore Bank,” Pam Denholm, executive director of the Weymouth Food Pantry, said in a statement. "he bank has ensured that this project will have a very long shelf life, and help many people.”

The garden was one of the first new initiatives implemented by Denholm when she was appointed last May. The garden was first planted in July of 2018 and is hosted by the Old South Union Church, between the sanctuary and Fogg Library. It has 24 raised garden beds and is maintained by volunteers who help plant, water, weed and harvest. 

The produce is distributed to food pantry clients at pop-up pantry sites. Pop ups are help at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at the First Church, 17 Church St.; 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at the  Cross Roads Worship Center, 241 Broad St.; and 10 a.m. Saturdays at Old South Union Church in Columbian Square, 25 Columbian St.
