Small change adds up: Campers raise over $300 for food pantry - LaSalle News Tribune

All it took was some change.

Echo Bluff campers and workers collected over $300 in change in an effort to buy dairy products this summer for the Hall Township Food Pantry.

“It was so wonderful,” said Jan Martin, executive director of the Hall Township Food Pantry. “I think they should be recognized.”

Every day at sign-in, campers had the chance to donate change for their favorite counselor to get a pie in the face, and the money went toward the dairy products.

The products went to 36 families, who received items such as gallons of milk, cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt and cream cheese. The camp also collected 328 pounds of peanut butter and jelly for the pantry.

Camp director Samantha Brown said she originally wanted to collect money to just buy milk, but after they raised over $300, they expanded to dairy products not often donated to the pantry.

The camp was called Crazy Camp, which included archery, a mud slide and tug of war,

She said she plans to do the fundraising again next year, too.
