First Pet Food Pantry Opens In Passaic County - Wayne, NJ Patch

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Now, local families do not have to choose between buying food for their pets or paying their bills.

The Passaic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCSPCA) opened a pet pantry at its Hawthorne headquarters.

The volunteer-run pantry provides help to Passaic County residents who have to choose between feeding and caring for their pets or paying their bills. Qualified residents can apply for monthly help.

The pantry is open on the first Saturday of the month from 1 to 4 p.m. and the second Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Residents in need must fill out a form, show a valid photo identification, and show proof of residency, a pay stub or tax return, and if a pet has been spayed or neutered.

"We are honored to be able to provide this service to our county's residents and their pets," said Luis Vasquez, president of the PCSPCA. "Our goal is to help people facing economic hardship be able to keep their beloved animals, rather than surrendering them to a shelter, by providing them with supplemental food, treats, and other items."
