Pet Allies creates pet food pantry at future shelter location - White Mountain Independent

SHOW LOW — Pet Allies’ Pet Food Pantry has been created to offer temporary/emergency pet food assistance to pet owners struggling to feed their hungry pets; this service is not intended to supply food permanently or on a regular basis.

RJ Owens, Director of Pet Allies, in collaboration with Lisa Jonas, volunteer Pet Pantry coordinator, established the Pet Allies Pet Food Pantry in December 2018 as a resource for community members who may be struggling financially to feed their pets.

The pantry offers cat food and treats, dog food and treats, as well as a limited supply of bedding, towels, and collars. The pantry offers these items through the generosity of individual donors and local businesses such as Cal-Ranch, Tractor Supply and PetSense. Most recently, Cal-Ranch donated over 500 pounds of high quality cat and dog food to Pet Allies for the pantry. According to Jonas, “Without this incredibly generous support, we could not offer this vital program to financially strapped pet owners in our community.”

To qualify for this program those seeking pet food need to be approved in person, complete a short application and provide proof of low income prior to receiving pet food. Applicant’s animals must be spayed or neutered or must agree to schedule the surgery within 45 days of receiving food for the first time from Pet Allies Food Pantry. Pet Allies can assist with spay or neuter through their clinic. The Food Pantry program is subject to resources available and applicants can utilize the Pantry up to 4 times per year.

The pantry is located at 1321 N 16th Street, the future home of the Pet Allies Animal Shelter (just a few blocks from the current Pet Allies Animal Shelter). Hours are Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Pet Allies’ mission is to stop pet over-population through non-lethal means. What does that mean? Pet Allies wants to make our community a better place by saving the lives of animals that enter local shelters. Pet Allies does this by operating a no kill shelter in the City of Show Low and by offering deeply discounted and free spay and neuter services at its clinic in Show Low. And now we are proud to offer temporary/emergency assistance to feed hungry pets.
