COCKE CO. Tenn. (WVLT) Dozens of cars backed up on Hartford Road monday afternoon, all hoping to get a little help.
"A lot of people in Cocke County need help," Wayne Naill said.
He's one of the many in need throughout the county.
"We get food stamps, but of course you don't get a whole lot when you only have a family of two," Naill said. "You try to stretch it out, but sometimes it doesn't work that way."
That's where the Ark Food Pantry hopes to fill hunger needs in their community.
"We all know the minimum wage is a big issue right now," Meganne Lee said. "You can't live on the minimum wage. We're here to help support people that are out there working and trying, but just can't make ends meet."
She says that one in seven people in the county are chronically hungry, meaning they can't afford to buy their own food, and haven't be able to for a while.
"This is how many people are hungry that need this food," Lee said. "They can't go another day, another week, without these groceries. I'm glad that we're here for them."
Knowing that someone is there makes all the difference to Wayne.
"I'm definitely grateful and thankful for what's going on," Naill said.
The Ark Food Pantry is open every Monday at Trinity Baptist Church. They are open from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
