The Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry closes for remodeling this week. Beginning Monday, volunteers will empty the pantry to prepare for new paint, floor cleaning, new lights and new shelving that will increase storage by up to 40 percent.
The pantry, which opened in 2011, is a campus-wide resource that provides essential food and other necessities to University students, faculty, staff and their families with dignity and respect. The remodel is the largest overhaul for the space since it opened.
The last day to collect food from the pantry's usual location—324 Stadium Drive in Bud Walton Hall across from the union parking deck—is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Next week, the pantry will open at an alternative location in the Green Room in the Walton Residence Hall. The temporary location is open for regular hours of operation during finals week and again from January 7 through the 21. The pantry reopens at its normal location on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
At the temporary location, food supply is limited to pre-packaged bags, which include most needed items, and is based on household size. If you are in an emergency situation while the pantry is closed, please check this website for alternative food assistance services.
Spaces are still open for volunteers to help pack and move food, shelves and other supplies from the pantry from Monday Dec. 10 through Thursday Dec. 13. Register for a shift online here.
