Bucket Blitz donations help Salvation Army Food Pantry - WGEM

Thursday is the final day of the 34th annual WGEM/Salvation Army Bucket Blitz.

The money raised will go toward the Salvation Army’s Christmas campaign and service programs in the Tri-States including the food pantry, located inside the Family Services building at 501 Broadway in Quincy.

The pantry is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. til noon. Officials say they serve between 200 and 300 people a month.

The money raised from the campaign will help the pantry year round.

Michael Smith, who has been helped by the Salvation Army, says it is reassuring to know programs are around for those in need.

“I think it’s a very good part of the community, that helps folks out especially for those of us that find ourselves needing a little bit out help.”

To donate you can stop by the 33rd and Broadway entrance to the Quincy Mall from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The goal for the four day blitz is $30,000. Dip jars are an easy way to donate. You can just dip your credit card for a quick $10 or $20 donation from your car.

You can also donate by texting ‘DONATEQUINCY’ or ‘DONATEHANNIBAL’ to 41444.
