God's Pantry providing Thanksgiving for those in need - The Sentinel-Echo

God's Pantry Food Bank handed out Thanksgiving supplies to families in need as part of their Basket Brigade event last Monday. Their London branch, located at 1215 E. 4th Street, had 250 turkeys to hand out alongside boxes containing sides such as cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy.

The Thanksgiving boxes are approximately $76 each in value, paid for by God's Pantry through fundraisers and sponsors. Recipients of the packages were referred to the organization by local churches. Volunteers handed out food as recipients drove through and were signed in.

This is the first year God's Pantry has given out Thanksgiving boxes in London. According the Ashley Williams, warehouse coordinator and team leader for the organization's London division, God's Pantry's Lexington division has been hosting the Basket Brigade event for 25 years.

"Consider it a pilot" said Williams, "We're happy to expand the event to London and we're hoping to do this annually. There's definitely a lot of people out there who can't afford to have a meal on thanksgiving."

Those looking to volunteer can find more information on the official website of God's Pantry at godspantry.org. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for those looking to donate money to the organization.
