NBC 6's Pack the Pantry school food drive returns - KTAL

SHREVEPORT, La. - NBC 6 is teaming up with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana once again for the Pack the Pantry School Food Drive competition! 

It's the six year of the competition which starts Monday, October 8, 2018 and will conclude Friday, November 9, 2018.

Local schools can collect food for a chance to win cash prizes for their school! For more information, see the press release below: 

Pack the Pantry school food drive benefiting the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is a competitive food drive open to all schools to participate in northwest Louisiana. Last year thousands of students raised over 50,000 pounds of food for children, women, men, disabled, Veterans, homeless, elderly, unemployed and underemployed members of our community living below the poverty level. 

Cash prizes are given to the top three schools in elementary, middle and high school levels that bring in the most food.

Pack the Pantry was created six years ago by regional media partner NBC News 6.

School will compete to win cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Cash prizes are awarded to winning schools by classifications of Elementary, Middle, and High School. To give all schools an equal chance to compete, winners will be based on weight of food per student enrollment.

Sponsors and Prize:

Pepsi Sponsors three First Place prizes:

• $1,000 to the first place elementary School, $1,000 to the first place middle school and $1,000 to the first place high school

Brookshire's Sponsors three Second Place Prizes:

• $750 to the second place elementary School, $750 to the second place middle school and $750 to the second place high school

Frito Lay Sponsors three Third Place Prizes:

• $500 to the third place elementary school, $500 to the third place middle school and $500 to the third place high school

All participating schools must arrange self-delivery of your food items to the Food Bank, 2307 Texas Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103, before 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9th. Early delivery is encouraged.

Wednesday, November 14th, we will announce and award the winners in each category at the Food Bank.

We encourage you to use this food drive to also bolster school spirit and to educate your students about the realities of hunger that many in our community face.
